Full Name: Lucina Barncowel
Alias/Other Names: Mindgames, Lucy
Powers: Telepathy, weapon generation, assorted psionic abilities.
Hero Class: Alpha
Physical Attributes: Barncowel is an adult female of Asian descent. She has black hair kept in a flipped-out bob, which often looks messy and unkempt, and violet eyes, the only physical hint as to her psionic abilities. She is usually seen wearing a suit vest and shirt with a tie underneath, as well as suit pant and combat boots. She stand at only about 4′ 9″.
Power Analysis: Barncowel’s primary abilities are her weapon generation and her telepathy.
Her weapon generating abilities are an applied form of telekinesis in which she creates shapes out of planes of force. Her preferred form for these weapons is a greatsword that is as long as she is tall, which she uses for both melee and ranged combat. It weighs nothing to her and she uses this to great effect by swinging it at impossible speeds and telekinetically throwing it like an oversized dart. She has been seen on multiple occasions even causing a hail of them to fall in target areas. There seems to be no real cooldown on this ability, and she supplements it to great effect by enhancing her speed and strength with her telekinetic abilities while using her small stature to avoid being hit.
While her weapon generation ability is already a terrifying sight to behold, it is nothing when compared to her telepathic abilities.
Barncowel’s mind is toxic to any who touch it, and, in theory, there are very few who could survive making psychic contact with it. She uses this ability by simply communicating telepathically with her targets, disabling any psionic defenses she may have for the invading mind, which is quickly overwhelmed by her own psyche. This can have a number of effects on the target, most common being either total brain death in the span of six seconds or the total erasure of any higher brain function.
This ability is mostly active. However, in times when she is under extreme stress, it can expand outwards in an AoE around her, affecting scores of bystanders with no regard for race, age or gender. Luckily this has only happened once during her time working for the Heroes For Hire program. Procedures are to be created in the event that it happens again. (See the attached files for the incident report and the procedure proposal).
Notable Weaknesses: Barncowel, for being such a powerhouse, has very limited resources with which she can fuel her power. While her mind is toxic to others, it is toxic to her as well, and the usage of her abilities will quickly burn her neural pathways down to nothing, as well as shatter her mind. This can have the same effect on her as a stroke would have on another individual, and signs of exhaustion include a bloody nose, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and sudden drops in blood pressure which lead to dizziness and sometimes fainting.
Note, however, that her mind and brain both have a slight healing factor to them, meaning that these effects are not permanent: A few days of bed rest after extreme exertion will have her back to normal in no time.
Her other notable weakness is her lack of forethought and sense of self-preservation. She will frequently use her powers to the brink of death, throw herself in front of an enemy’s weapon, and engage in other dangerous activities simply because they are “fun.”
Origin: [ERR_NaN]
Psychological Analysis: Oh man. Oh jeez. This one is something else.
She has expressed to me a particular concern she has about her ability to keep herself from the voices she hears in her head. I suspect it’s just telepathic echoes from those around her. Now, I don’t advocate putting the mentally ill (which is the most accurate way I can describe her) in a position where they have to fend for themselves, both domestically and in terms of combat, but the thing about Lucy is that if we DON’T give her something to do, she’ll FIND something, and the odds are good that thing will result in injury or death, either hers or someone else’s…
Keep her busy. Keep Sparks at her side to control her. Do NOT set her off and this ticking time bomb will stay dormant. Just… Don’t throw her at psionic foes or anything like that. At least then she might be challenged by the fight.
That said, can we please, PLEASE keep her away from Fred? (I think that’s his name). Seriously, we have tons of kids in this building, she should NOT BE HERE.

Casualties and damage: Over [ERR_Number_Invalid] civilian deaths, [ERR_Number_Invalid] injuries, one recovery team member injured, five dead. Over $[ERR_Number_Invalid] in damages to the owners of the Half-Tree Mall, and $[ERR_Number_Invalid] in damages to the individual stores within.
Context: On Saturday, [ERR_Date_Not_Defined], a Level 4 PII was initiated at the Half-Tree Mall in Downtown Monolith City. Reportedly, Lucina “Mindgames” Barncowel and Razkel “Exodus” Sparks were visiting the mall on their free time.
Event: Barncowel, the aggressor, had telepathically attacked a mall bystander after following the instruction to do so from a voice in her head. While that event by itself would have been manageable on a PII scale, the stress of the situation caused her mental walls to crumble, opening her mind to the public around her, beginning the six second countdown to brain death of the civilian population in the mall. Sparks, familiar with the mental pressure that marked the beginning of this event, reactively teleported out of the area and into the office of Security Head Baxter, to whom he explained the situation. Baxter then mobilized a recovery team (Fixer squad) and informed Director Sokolov of the situation.
Footage gathered from the body cams of Fixer One through Six give clear insight to the situation. Upon arrival at the mall’s atrium, (Barncowel’s last reported position,) two squad members established a position on the roof via helicopter, while two other groups of two approached the fountain in the center. Body cam footage [ERR_Missing_Data] causing his heart to rupture [ERR_Missing_Data] slipping in the blood, where she slit Fixer Three’s throat [ERR_Missing_Data] causing the death of [ERR_Missing_Data] spotted weaponizing a pair of underwear taken from an adult clothing store [ERR_Missing_Data] grazing Barncowel with several rounds from her rifle, just missing her vital organs [ERR_Missing_Data] signing the chorus from “The Ballad of Sara Berry” while swinging the mannequin around [ERR_Missing_Data] before finishing off Fixer Five with her greatsword. In response to Baxter’s report, Director Sokolov upgraded the situation to PII Level 5, then authorized the emergency field duty of the team known as The Silencers, consisting of Brainwave, Crimson Huntress, Captain Hammer and Spot-weld. Upon arrival [ERR_Missing_Data] causing the glass ceiling of the atrium to shatter [ERR_Missing_Data] throwing Captain Hammer through the candy store and out into the [ERR_Missing_Data] flying out of the ice cream parlor shouting “I hope you’re ready to banana SPLIT!” He then proceeded to [ERR_Missing_Data] Barncowel was at this point nearing the limit of her mental fortitude, allowing Brainwave to overwhelm her with a blast of psionic noise, causing her to collapse unconscious.
This is unacceptable.
The Half-Tree Mall incident is by and large one of the worst PR cases we have ever had. Corporate is out for my blood because they thought everything was safe. Now they’re threatening to hold the project’s funding until we can produce some type of specialized containment procedures for heroes like Barncowel. We’re not here to secure, contain or protect, for [ERR_Censored] sake! We’re here to make money!
I’m authorizing more specialized training for security and recovery forces so that if they have to go into the field again, they will be ready. Fixer Squadron will consist of more than twenty-five people from now on.
I’m also giving the go ahead for project leaders to begin assembling “teams” of heroes for specialized tasks. Having a dedicated hunter-killer group of class charlies and above should help satisfy corporate.
This cannot happen again. Don’t let it happen again.
And don’t worry about Barncowel. I’ll figure out what to do to her.
